Chet Kingery Blue Grass Jam - Oct 13, 2012

On the same weekend with the CIBR-BBQ in early October, this bluegrass event has taken on a life of its own!

Acoustic only, and mostly old time, hardcore blue grass. Great for beginners or accomplished pickers. Vocalists are welcomed also. Groups range from 2 to 20, so come to lead, or to stay in the background.

After trying to take the Jam out of the BBQ weekend a couple of years ago, the response was... Stay with the BBQ. So, again this year, they are together. Bluegrass and BBQ. The hundreds of musicians will fill the town on this Saturday and play in groups of two to twenty all over the downtown. Six or more special locations will be set aside for the jammers, but we expect that they will find plenty of places on their own to make their music.

Back in 2007, the bluegrass/gospel group "The Gunny Sack Revue" adopted a home in downtown Arthur every Wednesday night. The revue encourages folks to join in at any time during its weekly jams. The Revue will be our "anchor" group for the Chet Kingery Memorial. We will not have any stage entertainment this year... just jams, on the sidewalks, in the Gazebo, on the sunny south sides of buildings, and in numerous jam tents set up around the downtown.

Chet, by the way, was an Arthur native and a well known  bluegrass player across the Midwest. With his band, he entertained thousands at events and concerts for many years before his passing.

Bring your instruments, or just a lawn chair and enjoy some great impromptu pickin' and grinnin' all over downtown Arthur. Free all over downtown Arthur on the Second Saturday in October.

IF you come to jam, we ask that you register at the Vistor's WelcomeCenter at Illinois and Progress Sts Downtown.. BE SURE TO REGISTER AS A JAMMER! When you register you will receive Free food coupons for BBQ and drinks for two. We are encouraging jammers that can to come over an Friday evening also, jam for a while in Dorothy Jurgens Park downtown and then head over to our Hog Roast VIP dinner to fill up afterwards. No registration required, just ask around when you get here for directions.

Come hungry, as we will have a whole lot of championship BBQ available all over the downtown this weekend.
