Gunny Sack Revue Moves Downtown
Every Wednesday Evening
If your looking for a toe tappin' good time check out the Gazebo Annex, in downtown Arthur, on Wednesday nights at 7:00 p.m. The Gunny Sack Revue has decided to move their grinnin' and pickin' nights into town from the Cadwell Opery. Each Wednesday night 5-20 pickers get together to play their favorite country, western, bluegrass, and gospel songs.
First a little history about the Gunny Sack Revue. Years ago Russ Brough and Philo Schrock got together and asked Omer Miller if they use his shop for a small jam session. Little did they know that their small picking session would escalate into a weekly session of 15+ musicians playing. They started upstairs in Omer's loft due to good acoustics, but soon had to move the gatherings downstairs to accommodate all of the people who wanted to join and also those who came to just listen. They became known as the Cadwell Opery but were renamed when gunnysacks were hung on the ceiling to make the acoustics sound better.
When they get together the musicians usually sit/stand in a circle and take turns singing a song of their choice with the others joining in on the chorus. They are a great group and you can tell they enjoy their music. They have performed at numerous events throughout town including downtown festivals and the county fair.
Come join the Gunny Sack Revue at the Gazebo Annex in downtown Arthur on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. Admission is free but they do accept donations to maintain their instruments and the accommodations. To check out the schedule of events at the Gazebo Annex visit http://www.gazeboannex.com .
