For Immediate release March 22, 2007 , Arthur Illinois
Thrill of the Grill Amateur BBQ Division returns to the
2007- 4th Annual Cibr-BBQ Competition in Arthur on Oct 12 and 13.
Arthur will again be hosting the Annual WCIA-TV Central Illinois Braggin’ Rights Barbeque & Bluegrass Cook-off (CIBR-BBQ) in Arthur’s downtown business district on October 12th and 13th. The CIBR-BBQ is an official Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) sanctioned event as well as an Illinois State Championship BBQ competition.
The CIBR-BBQ attracts between 45 and 50 of the best BBQ teams from across the country each year. These teams will be vying for trophies, cash prizes in excess of $7,000, and of course the Braggin’ Rights for cooking the best BBQ in Central Illinois. Teams from Florida, Colorado, North Dakota, Ohio, and all surrounding states regularly attend this October competition
For those unfamiliar with the KCBS BBQ circuit, people may be surprised to see the size of the equipment and crews there teams bring to such a competition. George Fritz, Co-Chairman of the event said, “Some of these teams take cooking BBQ very seriously. A number of teams will come to Arthur in luxury motor homes towing elaborate grills and smokers, yet many small cookers also get stage calls at the awards ceremony on Saturday.”
For the regular guy who likes to cook BBQ, but rarely ventures outside the confines of his backyard, the CIBR-BBQ is bringing back an extensive amateur division. The “Thrill of the Grill” will be open to anyone not competing in the professional division. The Thrill of the Grill is limited to standard backyard size grills using any type of fuel: gas, charcoal, or electric. Like the professional division, winners will receive trophies and cash prizes.
This year’s “Thrill of the Grill” also includes other amateur divisions. For children, there is the “Kids Q”. Children under the age of 18 can compete and have fun cooking chicken wings. “Our CIBR-BBQ appeals to the general public as well as the pros on the KCBS BBQ circuit.” indicated Fritz.
Past CIBR-BBQ’s have been joined with a bluegrass jam event, also downtown on the same dates. However due to the large crowds enjoying the BBQ, the Chet Kingery Memorial Bluegrass Jam is being moved up two weeks to September 29th. This date change will leave more room for bluegrass jamming and most likely provide warmer weather for outdoor “pickin’ and grinnin’.” Bluegrass stage entertainment will still be provided at the October BBQ event.
Keeping with the family theme of Arthur’s event, children will enjoy the “Kid’s Zone” hosted by the Arthur’s Women’s Club. Children can participate in a wide variety of fun games as well as play in an assortment of inflatable structures for a nominal fee.
